THE REV. CANON ADAM TRAMBLEY TAKES NEW CALL

May 27, 2026

Beloved in Christ,

I am writing to share some difficult but exciting news. I have recently accepted a call to be the
next rector of Trinity Church in Escondido, California.

As some of you know, my mom has lived north of San Diego for a couple of years. I was able to
visit her after Easter, and she is doing very well for being 81 years old. She also lives alone, and
it is increasingly clear that being this far away from her and my brother is going to get more
difficult as time goes on.

The Bishop of San Diego is a good friend who was in my DMin class and co-edited a book with
me. She has suggested a number of jobs to me over the years, and each time I have received a
clear “NO” from God when praying about them. A few months ago, she and her staff asked if
they could share my information with a church there whose rector died suddenly in December. I
prayed and didn’t get a “no”, but also didn’t expect it to go anywhere. When I visited my mom
after Easter, I told them I’d be nearby and could meet if they wanted, and they did.

While Jane and were there and meeting with them, we felt God pointing to this church as a clear
call. On the more meaningful level, their clearest needs are the things that I have the strongest
gifts for. On the level of God giving clear and whimsical signs, there was a two-foot tall black
giraffe in the rector’s office with a sparkly white clergy-esque collar. (As some of you know,
Julia used to call me ‘the black giraffe” for being tall and wearing black, and I had a blog of that
name). Recently, their vestry issued me a call, and I have accepted.

This call comes as a surprise to me. I have been in the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania for
my entire ordained ministry, and have formed deep, valued relationships with the clergy and
people here. I love St. John’s, Sharon, where I currently serve, and have appreciated serving in a
variety of roles within our diocese. It has been an honor and a joy to work with you and to pray
for you. This diocese is entering an especially exciting time, and I know that God has something
incredible in store for God’s people in this place. In the end, however, as you know, when God
calls, you can do things the easy way or the hard way, and I need to heed this call.

Many blessings on your continuing ministries in this place. And thank you for all that you have
given me, individually and collectively.

Peace,
Adam
